Sherwood Orchards

Weekly Crop Updates

September 14, 2014

SEE BELOW FOR OUR AVAILABLE FRUITS THIS WEEK:

Italian and Brooks Plums:  We have these varieties of plums to u-pick. Come and get them soon before they get too soft!

Petite Prunes:  We have these available pre-picked. They are super sweet and a perfect treat!

GRAPES: Concord, Thompson Seedless, Flame, Niagara. Please bring clippers to pick them. They are plentiful, but come get them quickly!   They are $1.25/lb.

Red and Green Bartlett Pears- these ripen best off the tree, so they are picked when they are still firm.  Place them in a single layer and they will ripen to perfection! Please bring clippers to make the picking easier!  We also have Seckel Pears- super sweet and small!

If you would rather purchase pre-picked Bartlett Pears, we also have some available for the same price as u-pick, just reduced to $.50/lb!

We have pre-picked Bosc Pears for $1.50/lb.  These are a firm pear not as good for fresh eating but wonderful for poaching, in salads, or with cheese.  A great gourmet treat!

There are the following apples ready to be picked: Tolman Sweet, Honey Sweet, Winter Banana, Spencer, Bellflower, Baldwin, Fireside, King, Orenco, NuRed McIntosh, Double Red McIntosh, Jersey Mac, Summer Rambo, Jonathan Red, Jonathan Gold, Discovery, Adams Permain, Zaber Reinetta, Chehalis, Famouse, Discovery, Red Melba, Gala, Sekai Ichii, Jersey Mac, and Whitney Crab apples (Whitney Crab apples make a great jelly!).  We also have Jonathan apples.

ALL FRUIT (unless noted otherwise) IS $1/lb.

Please bring boots and another pair of shoes to wear home as the rain will make the fields muddy. Children should have boots.

Beware of the squirrel and gopher holes in the ground. They are hard to see and contribute to the uneven ground.

We cannot allow individuals with walkers or canes in the orchard as it is too treacherous with the holes and uneven ground.

This year there will be times we are closed due to fruit not being ripe or unavailable. Should we sell out of fruit, we may close the orchard early.  Please call first before you come out to prevent disappointment in finding we are closed. Some of the crops are very small this year and we will close until we have sufficient crops to pick. The phone line may be more reliable and up-to-date than the website.

Please bring containers to take your fruit home with you.

PLEASE do not come to the orchard in the afternoon if it is too hot! The orchard is really too hot to pick fruit and we discourage you from coming when the temperature is above 85 degrees in the afternoons.

PLEASE bring containers to take your fruit home in.
